Similar chairs seat backs are designed only to provide position guidance and balance assistance. With our seat back, you can lean back and relax, like in a regular office chair, or position it on your lower back to provide additional support, reinforcing a proper, upright sitting position. Isokinetics Inc. Ball Chairs are the same quality products sold by others, but we bring them to you direct from the manufacturer. No middleman means there is no need to pay more! And, we provide all of our chairs with a 1 year guarantee. As an additional bonus, we provide a free exercise ball measuring tape that takes the guesswork out of inflating your ball. Sitting on an exercise ball while at home or work promotes flexibility, coordination, motor skills, core strengthening, and balance. Your body, when positioned on top of an exercise ball, is constantly making small adjustments, often imperceptible, to remain balanced and thus is constantly exercising a large group of muscles in doing so. By strengthening your body’s core muscle group you help improve your posture, have better balance and guard against back injuries. It may take time before your body becomes accustom to sitting on an exercise ball, since your core muscles may not have gotten much exercise previously. Start by using it 10 to 15 minutes a day and gradually work your way up. If you have had back problems or injuries, make sure to consult your physician or therapist first. Note: We provide a small pump for free for you to have a way to inflate your ball. However, exercise balls require a lot of air and it will take a lot of pumping with the free pump. So, you may want to consider purchasing at this time a high volume air pump, especially if you use exercise balls a lot or have other things you often inflate, like pool toys or air mattresses.

Super Brain Yoga

Superbrain Yoga® is a simple and effective technique to energize and recharge the brain. It is based on the principles of subtle energy and ear acupuncture. This powerful technique is explained in Master Choa Kok Sui’s latest book Superbrain Yoga®. Pilot studies on the effects of Superbrain Yoga® on school children include children with disabilities such as ADHD/ADD, developmental and cognitive delays, Down syndrome and specific learning disabilities. Children studied showed significant increase in academic and behavioral performance, greater class participation and improved social skills. In one study, the result of an electroencephalograph showed increased amplitude in the parieto-occipital region of the brain following the Superbrain Yoga®. This indicates increased brain electrical activity following the exercise. More studies on the effects of Superbrain Yoga® are being conducted. www.superbrainyoga.org

Q&A: How do you handle ADD / ADHD aside from meds?

Question by Ivory: How do you handle ADD / ADHD aside from meds?
I was diagnosed with “severe” ADHD. I’ve been on Concerta 36 megs for two weeks. It helps temporarily but, rather than solving the problem entirely, it’s like putting on a pair of glasses. Its like one piece of the puzzle is now there, but the rest are still missing,, there is no question that it’s essential to me now though.

I have heard some do Yoga, exercise etc. to cope, what do you do that has helped?”

Best answer:

Answer by Evenstar
Yes, yoga and meditation really help. But you need to be consistent.

Also a healthy and balanced diet and avoiding all processed and artificial foods. Works like a miracle. Check to see if you have any food allergies, this also makes the problem worse.

Good luck.

Parents Want To Know What Are The Alternative Treatments For ADHD

ADHD medication gets more and more controversial with drug companies refusing to admit that there is any problem whatsoever with their mind-altering drugs such as Focalin, Risperdal and Concerta. Obviously parents want to know what are the alternative treatments for ADHD. Alternative can mean a host of things ranging from meditation ,diet, behaviour therapy, counselling, yoga, equine therapy, Bach flower remedies and biofeedback just to name a few.

The bottom line is that there is no cure for ADHD and medication by psychostimulants can only help control the symptoms of inattention, squirming, outbursts and inappropriate behaviour. There have been over 200 studies showing that medication can be effective in treating ADHD but these studies rarely mention the side effects and the risks. Not many people mention what are the alternative treatments for ADHD, simply because it does not pay them to do so.

Anyone can find the warnings on the boxes of tablets and can visit the FDA site which has been forced to issue countless warnings about what the risks are. They cover heart attacks, blood pressure problems, anxiety and depression, hallucinations and psychotic episodes and suicidal thoughts. There has been much debate about these warnings saying that they are useless and this is what you would expect from any medication. There are always side effects and risks.

But here we are talking about drugs affecting the brain development of our children. The drug companies cannot tell us exactly how these drugs work and furthermore will not reveal what the long term effects are or could be. Nobody knows or nobody is telling. There is simply no profit at all in publicising what are the alternative treatments for ADHD.

One thing is clear and that is that medication will not solve very much at all apart from keeping the child’s teacher off the phone and perhaps calming the child. Experts now agree at least, that medication must be carried out in conjunction with some lifestyle changes and behaviour modification. If this is not done, treatment may not work either effectively or efficiently and the ADHD child will be among the 60% of children who carry the condition into adulthood.

ADHD behaviour therapy or simply parenting skills is crucial in helping the ADHD child to avoid parent-child conflict and spoilt relationships with peers at school and at play. So what is the alternative to medication ? Certainly while vitamins and supplements and a nutritious diet can help a little, the main problem to be addressed is how to calm the child and help him focus without drugging him. When parents ask what are the alternative treatments for ADHD, the answer is that homeopathic and herbal remedies are by far the safest, most effective and cheapest option they can get. None of the websites on ADD and ADHD will tell you anything about this but the site below this article will.

Using Yoga to Manage Attention Deficit Disorder (add)

Copyright (c) 2008 Jennifer Koretsky

Every now and then someone asks me: “What can I do for a quick-fix solution to my ADD challenges?” I wish I had the magic answer!

Unfortunately there is no quick fix for managing any challenge. Making positive, permanent changes takes time, energy and dedication.

However, there are a few things you can invest your time and energy in that will provide a greater rate of return, so to speak, when it comes to managing your Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) challenges. One such thing is yoga.

I’ve been encouraging clients to try yoga for a long, long time! When practiced regularly, yoga offers a number of health benefits. Yoga can:

* Increase your strength and flexibility

* Tone your muscles

* Decrease your blood pressure

* Help you sleep more soundly

And yoga can help you manage your ADD! Here’s how:

Yoga provides an outlet for stress relief. Stress management equals ADD management.

Yoga increases your personal awareness and encourages you to form a solid mind-body connection. This helps tremendously when it comes to controlling impulsiveness. And it also makes it easier to break out of periods of negative hyperfocus.

Yoga promotes relaxation techniques that teach you how to become calm and centered. It’s much easier and more effective to improve ADD management skills–like time management, organization, focus, and more–when you’re operating in a calm and centered state. You have the presence of mind to make good decisions without getting stressed out and frustrated.

If you’d like to try using yoga to help manage your ADD, then here are a few helpful tips for getting started.

1. Remember that yoga is not meant to be stressful or taxing on the body. Good yoga instruction will push you a bit, but it shouldn’t feel like boot camp!

2. Look for a yoga center near you and, if at all possible, avoid taking yoga classes at a gym. While there are exceptions, many gym yoga classes will be heavy on strength training and light on relaxation and breathing techniques. (Also worth noting: doing yoga on your Wii Fit is not the same thing as attending an actual yoga class!)

3. Don’t be afraid to get started by taking “Gentle Yoga” classes until you feel comfortable. Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about whether or not yoga is right for you.

The bottom line is that yoga can help ADDers feel calm, centered, and in control. And it offers lots of physical benefits, too!

You’ll feel the benefits of yoga right away. And after a few classes, you just might find that yoga becomes a powerful tool in your ADD management toolbox!

Is Ritalin a temporary fix?

When I was growing up I had trouble in school with non-mathematical subjects and a number of therapists (3 if I recall) diagnosed me with ADD or ADHD and wanted to put me on Ritalin (which I believe was gaining popularity with my generation) but I was so brainwashed by the “say no to drugs” campaigns I was subjected to weekly that I screamed and cried and refused to take anything. I worked around the problems focusing and I even made tricks to help me study (record myself read aloud and playing it back over and over). Anything to be normal.

I’m 28 years old and I’m through with college and well into my career and I’ve had what I consider to be good deal of successes but lately I’ve been having trouble focusing. I have an organic diet (though not vegan) and I run 4 miles 4-5 days a week. I lift weights and even sometimes join my fiance at yoga. Bottom line I have discipline but I can’t help but wonder if I’m being held back which brings me to my question…

Is Ritalin a slippery slope? Is it a drug that I will need to be on for the rest of my life to reap the rewards or is it actually correcting a chemical imbalance?

Thank you for reading this.
